In this page we mention projects, researches and documents related with topics addressed in CIAO!Women.
Where possible, we establish links, exchange visits and materials with the Partners of these projects in order to deepen our knowledges and enhance the visibilities of projects and researches related with gender issues

The main objective of EGG is to analyse the extent to which representative institutions and other organizations (such as political parties, trade unions, NGOs and social movements) enable women's participation and representation in political decision-making and governance in EU candidate countries. By looking at how the history of communist rule has affected women's current political position, the project will provide recommendations to the Commission and candidate country governments in order to underpin effective future policy-making. This project is interesting for us because two Countries, Latvia and Bulgaria, are analysed and the reports related to the specific national situation can be of interest to better understand also the CIAO!Women results.

The  Tackling Stereotypes: Maximising the Potential of Women in SET project, funded by the Programme of Communitarian Action on the Strategy for Equal Opportunities between men and women, is geared towards the research, exchange, reflexion and development of strategies to enhance women’s presence and participation in the private and public sector in the areas of science, engineering and technology (SET). Also CIAO!Women deals with stereotypes, and we thing that some of the ouputs of the project can be interesting in relation to our aims.

Feminist methodology
Changing faces of feminist thoughts - Students in a course on Systems of Human Inquiry at the University of Texas constructed a web site dealing with what they consider the four major themes of feminist methodology [basing their work on Shulamit Reinharz] and examining those themes through the lenses of four researchers: bell hooks, Robert Jensen, Y. G. Flores-Ortiz, and Betty Friedan.

Women's Relationships with the Web: Gender and Technology Research Resources
"This web site was created by Jennifer Brayton as the final assignment for her graduate Sociology independent reading course with Dr. Wendy Robbins (English, UNB) in 1996/1997. The reading course was entitled, "Women and the Internet" and focused on exploring the experiences women have with the Internet as a new information and communications medium. As the site has evolved and changed over time, the function has also changed. Jennifer Brayton now uses this site to make available her research and resources on feminism, gender and technology. Contained on this site are several essays she have written on the topic, bibliographies, films and book reviews, as well as links to related topics and authors."

A Roadmap for equality between women and men. Communication from the commission to the Council, the European parliament, the European economic and social committee and the Committee of the Regions. 2006-2010
This Roadmap outlines six priority areas for EU action on gender equality for the period 2006-2010: equal economic independence for women and men; reconciliation of private and professional life; equal representation in decision-making; eradication of all forms of genderbased violence; elimination of gender stereotypes; promotion of gender equality in external and development policies. For each area, it identifies priority objectives and actions. The Commission cannot alone achieve these objectives, as in many areas the centre of gravity for action lies at Member State level. Thus, this Roadmap represents the Commission's commitment to driving the gender equality agenda forward, reinforcing partnership with Member states, and other actors.

This document is based on a workshop presentation given by the author to members of the Research Division of Status of Women Canada in February 2000. The main goal of the workshop was to provide resources to members of the Division involved in evaluating research proposals submitted to the Policy Research Fund. Its content is still interesting and can be useful to read it in relation to Ciao!Women.

The GEM Gender Evaluation Methodology for Internet and ICTs. A learning tool for change and Empowerment. GEM is an on-line guide for conducting gender evaluations of initiatives that use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for social change. Can ICTs really improve women's lives and gender relations as well as promote positive social change? The APC WNSP offers the GEM Tool as part of its work in Gender and ICT learning and advocacy. The free on-line and downloadable guide provides users with an overview of the evaluation process, explores gender and ICT issues, and outlines suggested strategies and methodologies for incorporating a gender analysis throughout the evaluation process.

The POLITE Project: Equal opportunities in text books. Polite was set up to promote cultural, didactic and publishing considerations to rethink textbooks to ensure that those women and men who have led the way in culture, history, politics and science are represented in textbooks with no discrimination based on sex. In more general terms, Polite intends to ensure that women and men are equally represented in school books, so that the contemporary world can be analysed and knowledge for the generations to come can be built up with greater awareness of gender identity, forming new and different relationships between men and women. It is at school that recognition of differences can have real and practical possibilities for collective development, thus becoming the personal heritage of all young people in an equal opportunities perspective.
The vademecum, which includes interesting reflections on scientific topics and gender issues is available in

Women and Media in Europe. The “Women in Media in Europe” project aims to contribute towards achieving equal opportunities for men and women in Europe, and to promote a societal vision of roles destined for changes in sex roles or gender stereotypes in general.

Portraying Politics. A toolkit on Gender and Television.   Politics is a man’s world. At least that’s the impression we get from television. The media give less airtime to women than to men in politics, and there are differences in the kinds of coverage that women and men receive. The toolkit “Portraying Politics” sets out to analyse production patterns and professional routines that result in these genderbased differences. It challenges journalists and programme-makers to reflect on the way they currently do things, and to think creatively about new possibilities. The toolkit contends that fair gender portrayal is a professional criterion like any other – balance, diversity, clarity and so on. It also aims to demonstrate that when attention is paid to gender during the production process, the pay-off is richer and more innovative output that will appeal to a wider audience.

It is possible to order the toolkit visiting the project's website: http://www.portrayingpolitics.org/index.php. Order your copy of the training resource kit before the 1st of April 2006 and you will receive a copy free of charge. If you order your copy after that date, postal costs will be charged.
The  toolkit ( I quote from the website)  , is designed as a flexible set of resources that can be used in many situations.
It consists of :
a DVD with :
clips from current television programmes to illustrate patterns of gender portrayal
specially produced video examples of interview styles and reporting styles
written text that includes recent research data and discussion questions
a trainers’ manual
